Lawrence W. "Larry" Strand died February 7, 2010 following a brief hospitalization.
Larry was born in Portland on May 13, 1929 and was a lifetime resident of the city. He graduated from Beech Elementary School and Parkrose High School.
He married Harriet E. Kern on July 11, 1959 at St. Mary Magdalene Church and the couple had three children. Survivors include his wife, Harriet; son, Michael and twin-daughters, Sally Mudiamu and Susan Haou all of Portland. Also surviving are eleven granchildren.
Larry worked for the Portland Public Schools and was Head Custodian at Adams High School, which later became Whitaker Middle School, before he retired from that school in 1989.
He loved cooking and gardening.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Charles Catholic on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 1 p.m. followed by a reception.
He specifically requested two hymns for his service, "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art."
