Florence Susanne Haeg Kennedy passed away peacefully in the arms of the Lord on her 95th birthday, June 6, 2010. Florence was born in Rockford, Wash., June 6, 1915, to Mary Schoenecker and John Haeg. She spent her early years on a farm in Idaho and often rode a horse to school in the snow. She graduated from Marycliff High School and attended Northwest Business College, both in Spokane.

Florence was working as a title company administrator in Spokane during World War II when the U.S. Air Force opened a base there. She was the first civilian employee at the base, and, as supervisor of civilian personnel, had the task of developing the job descriptions for the civilians who later worked on the base. She was transferred to Travis Air Force Base in California and spent 10 years there as an organization and methods examiner. While in California, Florence received a degree from Vallejo Junior College and earned credits equivalent to a bachelor's degree at Sacramento State and the University of California.

She married Marvin Kennedy, an officer in the Air Force, on May 1, 1955. He was assigned to SHAPE, the forerunner of NATO, and they spent three wonderful years in Europe where he was stationed in Paris, Germany, and Belgium. Florence's sister Loretta Platou was able to visit, and they had many enjoyable trips through Europe and Egypt together. Florence was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and lived for almost 10 years in the Mary's Woods community prior to her final illness. She was a talented pianist, seamstress, and artist, and exhibited her paintings at many art fairs. Her youthful outlook on life and delightful personality made her many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, sister, and brother, Raymond Haeg. Florence is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.

A rosary will be recited at 10:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2010, in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Oswego, followed by burial in Willamette National Cemetery.
