David stood tall in spirit and was an optimistic and enthusiastic overachiever. Having been born with cerebral palsy, he not only received a master's degree in speech pathology, he lived independently and worked in the field of speech therapy for 44 years. He was listed in "Who's Who of Most Influential People." David was a strong Christian and lived his faith. During several recent hospital stays, it was evident that he had touched many people with his loving and gentle spirit because he was always surrounded by family and an extensive network of devoted friends.

David was born on Pearl Harbor Day. He was the first of two sons born to Donald C. and Elizabeth Dillon Bauer in West Linn. He graduated from West Linn High School and Oregon College of Education (now Western Oregon University). While in college David lettered in track and always treasured his letterman jacket. It didn't matter that he always finished last but that he proudly finished the race amid cheers from his team, other students, and the college administration. Dave lived in Lake Oswego for many years and enjoyed his condo life. He died peacefully on the evening of June 29, 2010, of colon cancer.

He is survived by his brothers, Stan Bauer (Monika) of Ocala, Fla.; Bob "Butch" Pinson (Nancy) of Seaside and Lake Oswego; and John Pinson (fiance Adrianna Wilson) of Lake Oswego; and longtime friend, Susan Stubbs of Lincoln City. He also treasured his three nieces and two nephews and six grandnieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his dad, Don Bauer; mom and stepdad, Betty and Don Pinson of Lake Oswego; and niece, Sarah Pinson of West Linn.

David's life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 2000 Country Club Road, Lake Oswego. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Legacy Hopewell House Hospice.
